Fly cast on the water
Make your time on the water count
When you are a beginner paying a guide to put you onto fish, you don’t waste the first couple of hours learning how to:
1) Read water and identify prime spots where fish hold;
2) Cast your fly in the right spot for the fish; and
3) Manage your line on the water to obtain the longest possible drift.
A day on the water
For beginning fly fishers who have had 1 or 2 casting lessons, let’s take a day on the water and learn how to identify likely fish holding spots. Then let’s cast to those fish in the wind, with obstructions and with changing water conditions(currents, depths and clarity). No doubt, this experience will make future outings, guided or DIY, more successful and enjoyable.
